This application example clearly shows that digital X-ray technology can check several potential defects in a single X-ray process. Missing or incorrectly positioned components can be quickly detected, as well as defective solder joints and contacts, breaks in the heating coil, missing screw connections, and deformations of the outer shell.

Information:
In the production of heating elements, the distance between the internal heating coil and the outer wall must be maintained. If the distance is too small, a serious short circuit can occur during later operation.

Inspection possibilities:
Cable break / constriction of the heating coil / faulty soldering / incorrect position of the heating coil

Information:
For quality assurance of heating elements, direct contact between the heating coil and outer wall can be detected through electrical measurements. However, electrical measurement methods cannot provide information about the distance between the heating coil and outer wall. In contrast, the position of the heating coil is clearly visible in the X-ray image. Here too, only the use of digital X-ray cameras makes fast and economical X-ray inspection feasible.

Information:
Digital X-ray inspection plays an important role in quality assurance not only in production. It also offers a very good possibility for fault analysis. For example, a broken wire in a connection cable becomes visible in the X-ray image.
